Marti Canipe

Prior to serving as an Einstein Fellow in the Office of Polar Programs (OPP) at NSF, Dr. Marti Canipe taught third through eighth grade science for twelve years in North Carolina.  During her fellowship in OPP, Marti worked to help polar scientists connect with K-12 classrooms by developing resources for teachers and scientists to help bring scientific research into schools.  She also helped plan the Joint Science Education Project which brought together high school students and teachers from the United States, Greenland, and Denmark to explore scientific research being conducted in Greenland.  Since completing her fellowship, Marti has earned a Ph.D. in Teaching and Teacher Education with a concentration in Science Education from the University of Arizona and is now an Assistant Professor of Elementary Science Education at Northern Arizona University.
