Dr. Wilk is the program manager for the Heavy Element Chemistry program and the acting program manager for the Geosciences program; he also manages aligned Energy Frontier Research Centers. He received his B.A. from Reed College in 1995 and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley as a student of Darleane Hoffman in 2001, where he studied the chemical and nuclear properties of the heaviest elements. Following an environmental radiochemistry postdoctoral appointment in the Glenn T. Seaborg Center for Actinide Chemistry at LBNL and an appointment at the Institute for Radiochemistry, Technical University Munich; he joined the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a staff scientist in 2003. While at Livermore he pursued forensic and weapons related research with the Stockpile Radiochemistry and Plutonium Processing groups, as well as super-heavy element research with the Dubna-Livermore collaboration that resulted in recent superheavy element discoveries. Dr. Wilk has extensive experience with the chemistry and properties of actinide elements and with nuclear science and instrumentation.
