The Department of Energy Berkeley Site Office (BSO) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) is located in Berkeley, California. The mission of BSO at LBNL is to manage and administer DOE's performance-based contract with the University of California for the management and operation of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. BSO at LBNL supports the Office of Science mission to deliver the remarkable discoveries and scientific tools that transform our understanding of energy and matter and advance the national, economic, and energy security of the United States.

The mission of the Office of Science is to foster, formulate and support forefront basic and applied research programs which advance the science and technology foundations necessary to accomplish Department of Energy missions. The Office of Science is the single largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences in the United States.
