Dr. Victoria DiStefano

Dr. Victoria DiStefano is a Scientific and Technical Advisor in the Office of the Deputy Director for Science Programs. She supports the Office of Science in strategic planning and crosscutting DOE activities, including the Energy Earthshots, and acts as a point of contact for congressional and intergovernmental affairs. She joined the Department of Energy, Office of Science, in 2020 as an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow, where she was briefly detailed to the Under Secretary for Science and Innovation.

She has an interdisciplinary background in the geosciences, completing her PhD in Energy Science and Engineering at the Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research, a joint Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)/University of Tennessee program. In 2018, she was awarded ORNL’s Graduate Student of the Year Award for her contributions at the lab. In 2019, she joined the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) as a National Research Council (NRC) Postdoctoral Associate where she worked to implement and develop machine learning methods for improved neutron imaging reconstruction.
