HEP June PI Meeting

Dear Colleagues –
As you may be aware, the DOE Office of High Energy Physics (HEP) is busy preparing for several activities that are planned to take place during the current calendar year as well as continue as part of our long-term planning process.   Currently, the Particle Physics Project Prioritization Panel (P5), a subpanel of the High Energy Physics Advisory Panel (HEPAP), is concluding its deliberation process and will present the long-term strategic plan for HEP at the upcoming HEPAP meeting on May 22-23, 2014.    After review of this report, HEPAP will provide its recommendations to DOE/HEP in order for our office to implement the plan.   Further, during FY15, we will continue the large scale comparative review of research proposals submitted by US academic institutions.    We are currently preparing the FY2015 Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for these annual reviews and expect the FOA to be issued by early-June 2014.   This will also mark the 4th round of the process conducted by the office.     We are also preparing a separate FOA for a new HEP subprogram, known as “Accelerator Stewardship”, which focuses on the broader applications of HEP-developed accelerator technologies.   This FOA is planned for new funding opportunities in 2015 to address high impact R&D topics and will be issued synchronously as our regular FY2015 comparative review FOA.

In order to brief and guide the university HEP community on the above activities, we invite you to a meeting of all Principal Investigators (PIs) to be held as indicated below.   This invitation also includes co-PIs on an existing DOE grant as well as those PIs interested in applying to future comparative review
