SciDAC-Institutes Solicitation FAQ

Answers to Inquiries About This Announcement

Q1: The lead institution is asked to provide the proposed annual budget for the SciDAC Institute and for each collaborating institution following the example table in the FOA. Should this budget information be based on fiscal years or should it simply show the requested funding over 12 months for each consecutive year?

A1: It should simply show the requested funding over 12 months for each consecutive year. For planning purposes, the anticipated starting date you select should be no earlier than August 1, 2011.

Q2: Is it possible to submit biographical sketches longer than 2 pages so that all relevant information can be included?

A2: No, only the most relevant information should be included in biographical sketches to meet the page limit.

Q3: Should collaborating institutions include specific budget, biographical sketch and current and pending support information of other collaborating institutions within the same Institute in their applications?

A3: No, they should only include information related to their own institution. We remind the lead institution to submit additional information about the SciDAC Institute: a table (as shown in the FOA) and a one-page project narrative for the Institute.

Q4: Is it possible for the collaborating institutions to submit their proposals past the 05/02/2011 deadline if the lead institution submits its application by the deadline?

A4: No. The deadline for receiving all grant applications and proposals is May 2, 2011, 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.

Q5: Regarding the submission process for collaborative proposals, is it acceptable for each participating institution to submit the same 25 page narrative to the grants or FWP process, augmented by a short work statement (2-3 pages) highlighting the particular work that would be done at that institution? Then, may the lead organization submit the full proposal with all the accompanying budget, FWP pages, and work statements from all collaborating institutions?

A5: That strategy is acceptable.

Q6: May an institution or an individual participate in more than one SciDAC Institute proposal or grant application?

A6: Yes.

Q7: Does each participating institution need to submit a copy of the letter of intent?

A7: No, it is sufficient for the lead institution to submit a letter of intent for the proposed SciDAC Institute.
